Chimurenga Renaissance is a boundary-pushing musical duo rooted in the deep cultural legacies of Zimbabwe and Congo. Formed by percussionist/MC Tendai Maraire (formerly of Shabazz Palaces) and guitarist Hussein Kalonji, the group fuses traditional African sounds with experimental hip hop, electronic production, and politically charged storytelling.
Their upcoming full-length album Nhaka (“legacy” in Shona) is a bold sonic odyssey—bridging ancestral traditions and modern beats to create something wholly new, yet deeply rooted. Sons of African musical legends Dumisani Maraire and Raymond Braynck Kalonji, the duo channels their inherited sound into a global, metaphysical renaissance. With contributions from King Britt and a narrative arc that honors their lineage, Nhaka is more than music—it's a spiritual return, an Afro-presentist declaration, and a revolutionary statement on identity, diaspora, and cultural inheritance.
